SIKESTON - Workmen began this week on excavating a full basement for a six-room house being constructed for A.M. Jackson on Moore Avenue.

SIKESTON - More than 3,000 city auto licenses have to be sold before the Dec. 31 deadline. About 2,000 licenses have been sold to date. Last year, 5,500 licenses were sold.


SIKESTON - The final collections for the Tree of Lights program will be conducted between 4 and 6 p.m. today at the American Legion Park. The $1,500 goal has been attained, leaving only $100 left to be donated.


SIKESTON - State officials of the Civil Air Patrol will attend installation ceremonies for the Sikeston squadrons at 8 p.m. tonight.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night approved a subdivision request, but unanimously opposed a rezoning request for property abutting Tanner Street.

SIKESTON - In response to a significant rise in the average price of residential propane and possible shortages, Empire Gas, 2508 E. Malone, is now on "allocations" from the Missouri propane pipeline source. "This just means that we're getting only a certain amount," said an Empire employee. "They are telling us that the supply is the lowest since 1970."


MINER - Santa Claus is coming to Miner City Hall from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday. Santa will be there for entertainment of the children while they are being fingerprinted.


RICHLAND - Richland cruised past East Prairie in the opening round of the Richland Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament Monday night, 58-31. Richland took the early lead, then never looked back. By the end of the first half, the Rebels were leading 30-10. In the third and fourth quarters, Richland scored 14 points.
