SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Howard announced the opening of Howard's Cafe, formerly the Mobilgas Cafe, Highway 61 South.

SIKESTON - Forty-two attended when the public schools started four basic education adult classes at Lincoln School yesterday. The classes will run for 30 weeks, with four hours of class instruction each week.


SIKESTON - Hazardous driving warnings were issued for Southeast Missouri tonight with cloudy skies and light snow to accompany slick highways and streets. Temperatures will range for five to 10 degrees below zero.

EAST PRAIRIE - Sunday has been scheduled as the first day for receiving residents at the new East Prairie Nursing and Residential Center, 21 Miller Road. Dedication of the facility and a ribbon-cutting will be conducted from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and the public is invited to attend the ceremony and tour the facility. Serving as administrator for the 50-bed skilled nursing center is Karen Elliott. Genevieve Ray is the director of nursing and Dr. A.L. Weaver is the medical director.

SIKESTON - After Friday's disappointing loss to Dexter, the Sikeston Bulldogs were hungry for a little redemption - maybe even a little respect. Saturday, they got their share of both. "It feels good to win," said Sikeston coach Fred Johnson, after the team knocked off the Marion, Ill. Wildcats 68-64.


SIKESTON - Molly Pfefferkorn was named Sikeston Senior High's Homecoming queen. Student Council President Liz Barkett placed the sash on her during Saturday night's event.
