MATTHEWS - An autopsy is to be conducted today to determine the identification of a truck driver found dead at a truck stop.

New Madrid County Coroner Jimmy McSpadden said he was called to the Flying J truck stop at 1 p.m. Saturday after a man's body was discovered by another trucker. The body was in the cab of a truck just off Interstate 55, the coroner said.

"We are pretty sure it is a natural death but because it is a work-related death we are going to have an autopsy," said McSpadden. He added the autopsy will also enable authorities to positively identify the individual.

He estimated the man had been dead about a week. Apparently he had last had contact with someone on April 27.

Officials have not released the name of the deceased man however, they confirmed he is from Canada.
