MARSEILLE, France - Pfc. Lindell Hitchcock of Sikeston is a teletype operator here for the headquarters of Calais Staging Area, a huge redeployment center in Southern France, where at the high point men make their last stop in Europe.


SIKESTON - Taking a small early lead and holding it throughout the game, the Jackson Indians defeated the Sikeston Bulldogs in Sikeston Tuesday night, 29-25.

NEW MADRID - More than 100 farmers attending the 27th annual Soils and Crops Conference at the Community Building Monday heard the latest on insect control, irrigation and new crop varieties.

SIKESTON - According to KSIM owner Terry Jackson, the country music radio station was to be back on the air today after air checks were made. The station was destroyed by fire early Monday morning. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the State Fire Marshal's office have determined the fire to be arson. The incident is still under investigation and no further information has been released. All equipment and recordings were destroyed in the fire.

EAST PRAIRIE - A light rain continued to fall along with the temperatures Thursday as workers and utility company personnel began the task of cleanup and restoration of services following the tornado that touched down on the east side of the city. The first report came at 9:07 a.m. during a driving rain, strong gusty winds and temperature readings in the upper 60s. The most severe damage occurred on Washington Street, where a shop owned by Dee Dill on the side of the street was demolished.


CHARLESTON - A Mississippi County child, believed to be 8 years old, has been diagnosed as positive for the E-Coli 0157:H57 bacteria. Test results confirmed the infection last week.
