FULTON - Betty Waltrip, 78, died Sept. 17, 2005, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Born Sept. 16, 1927, in Essex, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth Hux Allstun. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in journalism and earned a certificate of teaching from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. ...

FULTON - Betty Waltrip, 78, died Sept. 17, 2005, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Born Sept. 16, 1927, in Essex, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth Hux Allstun. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in journalism and earned a certificate of teaching from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She had worked at the Missouri School for the Deaf, where she was the recipient of the first Teacher of the Year award. She also assisted her husband with the family furniture business and was a member of the Court Street United Methodist Church in Fulton.

On April 23, 1950, in Catron, she married Charles "Wally" Waltrip who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in law, Richard and Ann Waltrip of Spokane, Wash. and Scott and Sue Waltrip of Hams Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Bruce Meentemeyer of Columbia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry B. Allstun.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday until time for a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. The Rev. Ed Saferite will officiate.
