PUXICO - Norman 'Nellie' Underwood, 83, died May 17, 2006, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
Born Aug. 15, 1922, son of the late Walter and Ola Humphrey Underwood, he spent most of his life in the Bloomfield Community. He owned and operated Underwood Shell Station for many years, worked at Christian's Store in Bloomfield for the past 25 years and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 A.F. and A.M. and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis.
On July 2, 1946, he married Maxine Christian who preceded him in death on June 10, 1994.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Carl, Junior, and Joe Underwood.
Survivors include: one son, Gary Underwood of Saluda, N.C.; one brother, Gene Underwood of Bloomfield; two sisters, Pansy Dennis and Jessie Robey of Bloomfield; and two grandsons, Ty Norman and Cade Warner Underwood of Saluda.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., with Masonic Rites to be conducted at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Kevin Eskew will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
