Sikeston soccer takes road win against Jackson

JACKSON - The Sikeston Bulldogs boys soccer team traveled to Jackson to take on the Indians. Behind three goals from Blake Taylor, the Bulldogs gained a big road win as they defeated Jackson 3-1.

"Big win for us today," said Sikeston head coach Derrick Long. "We have lost to them twice already this season and the guys cam out after they scored first and stepped up."

After a scoreless first half, Jackson got on the scoreboard first on a corner kick from Spencer McKormnack at 55:00 to lead 1-0.

Sikeston rebounded and scored three straight to erase the deficit. Taylor scored his first goal at 62:00 to tie the game 1-1. Scott Gardner assisted on Taylor's second goal at 68:00 to put Sikeston ahead for good.

Taylor got the hat trick at 76:00 of the match and was assisted by Andrew Box. Final score Sikeston 3-1 over Jackson.

Sikeston outshot Jackson on the day 18-16 and Bulldog goalie Scott Droddy made 15 saves on the game.

"Taylor had a nice game but it was a total team effort," said Long. "The guys found Taylor open all night and he was hot and scored for us."

In the junior varsity contest, Jackson defeated the Bulldogs 3-0.

Sikeston (8-10) will be on the road again as they will travel to Kennett. The next home match will be on Monday, Oct. 24th as the Bulldogs will entertain the Poplar Bluff Mules.

JACKSON - Amanda Peiffer and Shay Priester each had six kills in a home victory.

Natalie Koeper added 19 digs and Lucy Hartmann 12 digs for the Indians (19

-10).

JV -- Jackson won 25-9, 25-6.

BERNIE -- Top-seeded Bell City swept through Richland 25-9, 25-5 in its first-round match at the Stoddard County Tournament in Bernie.

Emilie Stephens had six kills and four digs for the Cubs, while Jenny Lathum added five kills, and Rachel Spears had four kills.
