SIKESTON -- Leonard Vernon Colley, 88, died Oct. 25, 2005, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.

Born June 26, 1917, in Sikeston, son of the late Horace and Gertrude Fisher Colley, he was a lifelong resident of Sikeston and a seven-year veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was a bookkeeper and office manager for the Moore Company, Sikeston Implement Company and the Cotton Oil Mill before retiring. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston and the Sikeston Masonic Lodge where he had been past master and served as treasurer for many years.

In 1944, in New York City, he married Phyllis A. Treadwell who preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2002.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Lynn Allan Colley, who died May 4, 2003; and three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Rosetta Colley of Sikeston; one daughter-in-law, Saundra Colley of Sikeston; three granddaughters, Brook Harrell of Springfield and Celeste Colley and Kate Colley of Sikeston; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon Friday until services at 2 p.m. at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston with the Rev. Geoff Posegate, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
