CHARLESTON - Flora Garrard, 96, formerly of Parma, died Jan. 20, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born June 3, 1911, in Phil Campbell, Ala., to the late Thomas Eason and Kate Moriah Howard Faulkner, she moved from Alabama to New Madrid County in 1946 then in the early 1950s to Parma where she was a member of the Parma First Baptist Church. The Parma city collector for eight years, she served on the Area Agency of Aging Board for two years and worked as clothing and grocery store clerk. She attended the Vaughan School of Music in Laurenceburg, Tenn., and sang with the McDonalds and was the longest-
standing member of the Malden Gospelairs. In 1999 she moved to Charleston, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In 1928, she married Ester Wallace Garrard, who preceded her in death on May 16, 1965.
Surviving are: four daughters, Tomye Frances Campbell of Oran, Sheilah Sue Garrard of Tucson, Ariz., Donnah Kaye Sherwood of Mer Rouge, La., and Delilah Maye Patrick of Festus; one son, Mike Garrard of Charleston; and 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and several great-great granchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wallace Garrard; three brothers, Guy Faulkner, Howard Faulkner and Alton Faulkner; and two sisters, Ruth Thompson and Ocean Faulkner.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McMikle Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Charleston with the Rev. Gerald Collier of Ironton and the Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Parma Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Cox, Jake Garrard, Mike Marshall, Kelly Campbell, Stacy Campbell and Keith Campbell.
