Paul Joe Witt
SIKESTON - Paul Joe Witt, 79, died at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 20, 2008, at John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff.
Born June 14, 1928, in Crowder, to the late Paul John and Ruie Lee Atherton Witt, he graduated from Morehouse High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He ran the family farm until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Tanner Street Church of God. He played minor league baseball and shared his love of the game with many children through the years by coaching Little League and taking many of them to Cardinal baseball games. He was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
On April 3, 1954, in Sikeston, he married Wanda Hendley, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marcia Witt of Sikeston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Terri Angle of Sikeston and Anita and Jeff Mitchell of Memphis, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren, Madeline, Miranda and Megan Witt of Sikeston, Matthew Angle of Sikeston and Cameron, Amanda and Benjamin Mitchell of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Wilkening.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God, will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow at noon at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
