SIKESTON - Joseph Leslie was re-elected to the Scott County Tuberculosis Association at a meeting held at the Circuit Court room of the courthouse in Benton Thursday morning.

SIKESTON - A bid submitted by the Commerce Trust Co. of Kansas City, in association with five other firms, including the Bank of Sikeston, was accepted for the purchase of $1.35 million in school bonds to finance school building projects in Sikeston.

NEW MADRID - The city's budget anticipating expenditures of $487,431 for the coming fiscal year was approved by the City Council in a special meeting Wednesday.


SIKESTON - Dr. Leo Bruce was honored Tuesday night for his 22 years of service to Sikeston banks as a member of their boards of directors.

SIKESTON - The grand opening of the Pin Oaks Subdivision will be at 2 p.m. Friday at 336 Sunset Drive. City and Public Housing Authority officials will showcase the 62-unit complex during a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of one of the houses now on sale. Patricia Collins, Community Outreach coordinator, is in charge of the program.


NEW MADRID - In an effort to encourage beneficial conservation practices, the New Madrid Soil and Water Conservation District celebrated the April 27-

May 4 observance with a poster contest and a coloring contest with all of the county schools taking part. All students participating received a prize with cash prizes and ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.


MOREHOUSE - Joshua Goodon is the winner of the third annual "Second Hand Smoke is No Joke" contest for fifth graders at Morehouse Elementary. The contest was sponsored by the Scott County Heart Coalition and judged by co-

chairman Diane Jackson and Rosalyn Pullen.
