Maxine Laster

BERTRAND -- Maxine Elizabeth Allen Rockett Laster, 80, died at 10:29 a.m. Aug. 1, 2007, at the Bertrand Retirement Center.

Born Sept. 13, 1926, in Wolf Island, to the late G.M. "Pete" and Bessie Hockersmith Allen, she had lived her entire life in Mississippi County where she was employed as a teacher's aide with the Charleston R-1 School District for many years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Cornerstone Church in Bertrand.

In 1944, she married Louis Rockett Jr. who preceded her in death in April 1949. In 1959, she married Albert "Doc" Laster who preceded her in death in 2005.

Also preceding her in death were: one son, Jan Allen Rockett; one daughter-in-

law, Ann Wells Rockett; seven brothers, Leondas Allen, Jewel Allen, Leo Allen, Armonus "Slim" Allen, Bill Allen, G.W. Allen and Roy Dee Allen; one sister, Daisy Nunn; and three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny Lynn and Linda Rockett of League City, Texas, and Michael Louis Rockett of Charleston; one sister, Vivian Watson of East Prairie; three grandchildren, Jodie Rockett Batchelor of Columbia, Timothy Allen Rockett of League City and Ben Rockett of Charleston; and two great-grandsons.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Charles Kohlbaker of Bertrand will officiate.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Batchelor, Larry Kirby, Clint Kirby, Keith Coots, Eddie Shankle and B.J. Wilkerson.
