STEELE -- The former city of Steele treasurer has been charged for what officials call "a misappropriation of funds belonging to the city of Steele."
According to a Thursday news release from Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, Aleyna Riley, 26, has been charged with felony stealing, a class B felony.
This charge stems from a month-and-a-half long investigation by the Pemiscot County investigator, which alleged the misappropriation of funds. Riley had held the position of treasurer for the last two years until the allegations were brought forth.
She appeared Thursday before Judge Byron Luber, where she was arraigned.
Riley has waived her preliminary hearing and posted bond. She is expected in Division I court at a later date.
