MATTHEWS -- Harold Leon Shrum, 80, formerly of Mississippi County, died at 9:55 p.m. March 21, 2007, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.
Born July 21, 1926, in Blodgett, son of the late Harold Orlando and Ethel Moody Shrum, he lived most of his life in Mississippi and Scott counties. He was a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston and had worked as an electrician and also with AmerenUE until his retirement in 1988. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Carr Shrum of Charleston; three sons, John Shrum of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert Shrum of Payallup, Wash., and Joe Shrum of Arroyo Grande, Calif; one daughter, Teresa Escott of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, James Shrum of Phoenix and Billy Joe Shrum of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Shrum, and two granddaughters.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Pat Hogan, minister of Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, will officiate.
Burial with full military rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honor Guard will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
