SIKESTON - Katie McGuire was selected as "Employee of the Quarter" at Bootheel Counseling Services.

McGuire, who has been with the agency two years, serves as a children's case manager.

In nominating McGuire, her colleagues noted she was "a hard worker, has a positive outlook, promotes quality care for her clients along with being compassionate and is genuinely interested in seeing others succeed."

McGuire resides in Sikeston.

BELL CITY - The Early Learning Place has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals.

"We're proud to be accredited by NAEYC and recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards," said Rhonda Nichols owner and director of The Early Childhood Learning Place. "NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences."

More than 11,000 early childhood programs - serving over one million young children - are currently accredited by NAEYC. "In recent years, we've seen a growing number of child care and preschool programs earning NAEYC accreditation," said Mark Ginsberg, Ph.D, executive director of NAEYC. "By earning accreditation The Early Learning Place has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early childhood education and to help give all children a better start."

In business since August 2003, The Early Learning Place offers care for children from newborns to 16 years old.

In addition to Nichols, who has her Missouri Teaching certificate for early childhood education, the staff includes Regina Stash of Sikeston and Julie Eftink of Bell City, who are child development associates along with Roxanne Gammons of Bell City, who is working on her CDA. Also on staff as an educator is Stacey Hunt of Bell City.

SIKESTON - Kristyn Turnbow is now accepting appointments full time at Attitudes, a full-service salon located on Lake Street.

A 2005 graduate of Trend Setters in Cape Girardeau with a license in cosmetology, Turnbow furthered her education at Trend Setters in 2006, earning a license as an instructor.

Turnbow's hours at Attitudes are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Aug. 24 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Lunch will be $8 per person.
