SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Jerry M. Manley, 70, died at 8:39 p.m. July 6, 2006, at his home in Springfield.

Born Feb. 2, 1936, in Steele, Mo., to the late Marshall and Mary Middleton Manley, he managed the Thom McAn Shoe Store for several years and retired from J.C. Penney in 1988. A member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, he also belonged to the Springfield Sportsmen's Conservation Club and served 14 years in the Illinois Army National Guard. Following his retirement he worked for Staab Funeral Home.

On May 6, 1981, he married Virginia "Ginny" Dunlap Moore, who survives of Springfield.

Also surviving are: one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Doug Sokal of Virginia, Ill.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, David W. and Lori Waltrip of Springfield; one sister, Doris Manley of Lilbourn, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Patti Manley of Crawfordville, Fla., and James and Charolyn Manley of Lilbourn; one grandson, J.J. Huffman; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Staab Funeral Home in Springfield where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday. Vaughn Beeman will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
