Nobody asked me but...what the heck is wrong with Charleston? With all that talent and they lose to Crystal City? It makes zero sense. No team fears Crystal City and with the loss, Charleston has to pray for some upsets to make the playoffs.
The Bluejays don't deserve to make the playoffs after an up and down year.
The game of the week in Southeast Missouri for high school football will take place at New Madrid County Central as the Eagles will entertain the Dexter Bearcats. Both are coming off big district wins last week as NMCC took care of Perryville and Dexter throttled Kennett.
While the game should be entertaining, look for the Bearcats' offensive line to slowly wear down the Eagles' front seven. Printice Willis has had a nice year but Dexter running back Alex Becker has the stats and after Friday night will have the playoff team. Look for Becker to win the Carr Trophy for the best player in Southeast Missouri.
East Prairie should tone down their celebratory mood. Malden moved the football all night on them but failed to punch it in. This just in, referees are still blind. They must be because everyone and their mother thought Malden running back Ryan Criglar scored at the end of the first half.
The Eagles will step by Portageville this week, but be sure that the Caruthersville Tigers will have something for you. That something will be running back Kendrickus Reed and East Prairie will have no answer.
What the heck is a Zizzer?
I heard there was some great action at halftime of the Sikeston/West Plains game last Friday night. Hopefully letting the Little League football teams play at halftime of the high school game will become a staple at Sikeston. Good first step. Now, lets see Little League basketball players play in the Field House during halftime of the boys high school game.
Is the World Series still going on? I am sure the Cardinal fans would have informed me if they had won or...oh that's right, the Cardinals lost in the NLCS. I wondered why the baseball talk had died down.
In 1990, in what most experts thought would be a walk-over for the A's in the World Series, the Cincinnati Reds not only beat Oakland they swept them. La Russa has been equally inept in St. Louis as the last two years the Cardinals have been the best team in baseball record-wise only to fall short of being champs.
Let's start the countdown, it has been 23 years and counting since the Cardinals have won the World Series.
It would be just like Mizzou to lay an egg at Kansas after their big win over Nebraska last week. Quarterback Brad Smith, who had a huge game by throwing and rushing for over 200 yards, will probably revert back to the quarterback who can't read defenses and throws ducks down the field.
And finally, nobody asked me but...it is tough, folks, to be a Dallas Cowboys fan. If the football gods were merciful, the Cowboys could be undefeated this season. An awful loss to the Washington Redskins after being up 13-0 with less than four minutes in the contest was the start of my ulcer.
A dropped touchdown reception in the last minute of the game by a Cowboy receiver against the Oakland Raiders contributed to the 19-13 loss. And the ulcer grew to critical after Dallas gave away another fourth quarter lead this time to the Seattle Seahawks. Up 10-0 midway through the fourth, the Cowboy debacle began when their idiot kicker missed a 29-yard chip-shot field goal.
Then Dallas proceeded to play prevent defense in the waning moments of the game. The only thing that defense does is prevent you from winning. The capper was the interception thrown by Dallas quarterback Drew Bledsoe as the Cowboys were driving trying to get in field goal range.
Seahawks intercept and return it into their own field goal range where their kicker became bionic kicker and kicked one in from 50 yards for the win. Man it is tough to be a Cowboy fan.
