SIKESTON - A local certified public accounting agency will be hired by the Southern Scott County Ambulance District to review its financial books, the board decided in its January meeting. Spitzmiller, Hobbs, Clay, Berry and Co. was chosen unanimously to audit the district's records for $300 to $400.

CHARLESTON - The appointment of Ricky Penrod of East Prairie to fill the office of coroner of Mississippi County was officially made Tuesday by Gov. John Ashcroft. Penrod was administered the oath of office Wednesday by Mississippi County Clerk Junior DeLay and he will serve the remainder of the year in the appointive position.
SIKESTON - A $45,627 state tax credit approval will help support Sikeston's Drug, Alcohol and Delivery Center's Youth Opportunity Program which gives tax credits to businesses who hire disadvantaged and at-risk youth.

SIKESTON - Southfork Estates of Sikeston, with room for 102 "affordable homes," received the blessings of the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Tuesday. The new subdivision will be located north of Wakefield Road across from the Sikeston Power Plant, about two-thirds of a mile from Route BB.
