SIKESTON -- Charlene Polk, 79, died Aug. 25, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Sept. 12, 1926, in Scotland, Ark., daughter of the late Audie C. and Elva Trotter Thompson, she had worked as a cook for Piggly Wiggly deli and was active in the foster grandparents program at the Matthews elementary school. She was a member of the Crowe Congregational Methodist Church.
On Dec. 23, 1946, at Formosa, Ark., she married Willie Polk who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1988.
One son and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three daughters, Donna Sue Willms of Ideal, S.D., Mary Ann McElwain of Tracy City, Tenn., and Willa Jean Yarbrough of Sikeston; two brothers, Fairrell Thompson of Matthews and Jerry Thompson of Wappapello; two sisters, Billie Carroll of Sikeston and Margaret Mays of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 11 great-stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Mills officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
