BLOOMFIELD - James David Scruggs, 58, formerly of East Prairie, died at 5:10 a.m. July 29, 2007, at his home.
Born Jan. 20, 1949, near East Prairie, to the late Ollie James and Mary Ellen Louise Nolen Scruggs, he lived near Bloomfield for the past eight years and was employed by Walker Construction in Dexter. He was of the Protestant belief.
On June 28, 1991, at East Prairie, he married Sherry Lynn Stull, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Toby Scruggs of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonja and Noel Burgess of Oakland, Tenn.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sammie Merz of East Prairie; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Katie and Keith Walters of East Prairie; two brothers, Danny Scruggs and Dwight Scruggs of East Prairie; three sisters, Margaret White of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Erma Ashley of East Prairie and Faye Graybeal of Blue Eye; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his former wife, Ruby Nell Carden; one brother, Curtis Ray Scruggs; and one sister, Joyce Stockman.
Visitation is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Martin Lucas will officiate.
