Speakout 10/27

This is a recipe for potato salad someone asked for. Use 4 or 5 large white potatoes, cook with skin on until soft, then peel the potatoes. Add 4 hard boiled eggs, cut into small pieces. Add 2 tblsp. of sweet pickle relish and enough mustard or mayonnaise (I prefer mayonnaise) and mix well. A stalk of celery cut in small pieces, salt and onions can be added if that's what you want.

I'm calling in behalf of the cigarette tax proposal. I would like to say that I don't think the cigarette tax should be voted on by the public because a lot of the public don't smoke. I'm a smoker. When they go to the polls they won't care about the $8 a carton problems to me. Plus I'd like for you to print in the paper the politicians that are backing this amendment so that when I go to the polls in three weeks I can vote against these people.

I would to like comment on Carl Todt Jr.'s article in the Your View section of the paper Monday, Oct. 16. His article hit the nail squarely on the head. While this Amendment No. 2 claims to ban human cloning, it actually does just the opposite. The proponents of this amendment are deceiving us. There will be somatic cell nuclear transfers, this is just another name for cloning performed. If this amendment passes, our tax money will be used for this research and this wealthy proponent will get richer. This amendment is about patents, not patients. Those of you who have decided to vote yes, please reconsider the facts and implications this amendment could bring about and please vote no. For those of you who are undecided, check out the facts for yourselves and please vote no. If you go to www.nocloning.org you will say the exact valid language and you can read the full, unedited language of this deceptive amendment. Check this out and please vote no on amendment no. 2.

I don't know how to start this. Being fair. Attorney being fair with his client. Or is it attorney selling out his client? Or if you have injured yourself and the city's involved, and people in the city are involved, what can you do about it? It must be a riot to send you over to someone else who is also involved with the city. Not treated fairly. Dad gum it. Wonder if this will be printed Mr. Jensen.

I want to thank the Standard for having the Air Force Band here. It was so great. We enjoyed it so much. The music was just so good that in fact, I had to go out and buy a tape of the band music that they played. That "In the Mood" was just marvelous. I have always loved that song, but I had forgotten just how much I liked it. I appreciate you bringing it to Sikeston and having the free concert. I hope that in the future you can do it again and I hope you know how much we appreciate it. Thank you.

I see that this bleeding heart group that is trying to raise taxes on cigarettes are now running commercials on TV telling what each smoker is costing taxpayers a year. If they are going to do this, why don't they explain what each unmarried girl, gang related violence and obesity is costing taxpayers per year? If they get by with this tax increase, what is next? For one, I probably suspect it will be overweight people.
