CHAFFEE - Melvin F. Goetz, 83, died at 6:48 a.m. Jan. 13, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Sept. 20, 1924, at New Hamburg, to the late August Gregory and Agatha Marie Bucher Goetz, he was a self-employed farmer and had worked in receiving at Superior Electric in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Joseph Sodality in New Hamburg.
On Oct. 9, 1943, he married Bertha Marie Martin, who survives of the home in Chaffee.
Other survivors include: two sons, William "Bill" Goetz of Maryland Heights and Larry Goetz of Chaffee; one brother, Norbert Goetz of Fenton; three sisters, Shirley Keesee of Scott City, Mary Ann Eftink of Oran and Doris Jean Brakefield of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one grandson.
Visitation is at 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where parish prayers are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in New Hamburg.
Pallbearers will be: Jack Saggio, Richard Saggio, Dan Goetz, Kevin Goetz, Ryan Goetz and Matt Richter.
