Funding assistance needed for fireworks

Perhaps it's just my age, but time seems to be flying by these days. I know I'm not alone because I hear the same comment from others on a daily basis.
It seems that school was just recessed for the summer and lo and behold, July 4th is right around the corner. Before you know it, it will be rodeo time and then school will begin, etc. Like it or not, time does indeed march along.
Speaking of July 4th, for more years than I can count, the Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319 has staged the annual community fireworks display to celebrate the holiday. This summer ritual is as American as apple pie and baseball. But the massive fireworks extravaganza is not an inexpensive undertaking.
The Elks are asking those within the community to consider a donation to help offset the cost of the public fireworks display. Unless the public can reach down and help with the cost of this holiday fun, the display will dwindle and eventually disappear. Any town - including our town - wants to have a holiday celebration for the youngsters to remember.
The Elks Lodge does tremendous work within our community. They have helped thousands - primarily youngsters - and the Elks serve as a reminder of what community volunteer work can accomplish.
Please consider a small donation to the Elks to help offset the cost of the July 4th celebration. Send your donation to the Sikeston Elks Lodge Fireworks Committee, P.O. Box 931, Sikeston.
