CHAFFEE -- Family and friends of Bill S. Chapman are invited to attend a 90th birthday celebration in his honor from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 23 at the American Legion Hall, 306 N. Main St., in Chaffee.
Chapman was born July 19, 1916, near Advance, to the late George Edward and Mella "Millie" Reed Chapman. On April 6, 1938, at the courthouse in Bloomfield, he married LaRue Scism, who preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1999. The couple had seven children. They are Margaret (Joe) Heuring of New Hamburg; Kenneth Chapman of Gordonville; G. Norman (Sharon) Chapman of Cape Girardeau; Larry H. (Shelly) Chapman of Kansas; Sharon L. Bowen of St. Louis; and the late Mary Kinder and Bill D. Chapman.
Chapman worked for Claude Willett in Perkins in 1939 and for Martin Dunn of Oran from 1943-1944. He then worked for W.A. Heyde south of Essex from 1944-1950. In 1950, the couple moved to Leora and then to Blomeyer. Chapmen went to work at International Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau; they moved to Chaffee in 1973.
