Five charged in local burglary
SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety has arrested five subjects in connection with a burglary.
DPS received a burglar alarm from Mr. B's Drive Up Package, 805 S. Main, at around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the department.
Officers immediately responded to find someone apparently has broken the front glass door and entered the building.
Sikeston's K-9, Eros, entered the building and made sure the offender or offenders were no longer present. Officers then discovered someone had stolen a large sum of money and several lottery tickets from the business.
Sikeston's Criminal Investigation Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Information gathered early on quickly led to the suspects in the theft.
Officers arrested the five suspects within 24 hours of the burglary: two white males and three white females. All are awaiting formal charges from the Scott County Prosecutor's Office for their part in the crime.
Additional information about the suspects and the investigation will be provided when charges are filed, according to McMillen.
