EAST PRAIRIE -- Dee Bernell Kemp, 80, died at 9:50 a.m. May 24, 2007, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born Dec. 7, 1926, in New Madrid County, son of the late John and Lillian Thresher Kemp, he lived all his life in New Madrid and Mississippi counties, where he was a retired farmer and was employed by the St. John's Levee District for more than 20 years. A member of the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. In 1951, he married Elise Hardin, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Mike Kemp of East Prairie; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl and Darrell Abner of Blodgett and Melinda Larkins of Charleston; one brother, Ted Kemp of Lake Geneva, Wis.; and six grandchildren.

One daughter, Debbie Kemp Vetters; one grandson, Justin Larkins; and one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation is at 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. Mike Johnson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
