POPLAR BLUFF - The Sikeston boys and girls eighth grade track and field teams both finished in fourth place at the Poplar Bluff Invitational Meet on Thursday.
Sikeston's boys team tallied 107 points while the girls totaled 104 points.
On the boys side, Sikeston's Ray Clark took first in the long jump at 17-feet, 4-inches. He also took second in the 100 meter dash at 11.83.
Eldridge Sumlin captured first place in the high jump at 5-feet.
On the girls side, Vonteria Applewhite took first in the long jump at 15'4" and took third in the 100 meter dash at 13.89.
Keyonna Blissett took first in the 100 meter hurdles at 13.78 while also placing second in the long jump at 14'9".
Betsy Borgsmiller took first in the high jump at 4'10" while also placing second in the 400 meter dash at 1:08.
The girls 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 meter relay teams both took first place with times of 1:56.32 and 55.38 respectively.
In Sikeston's previous dual meet at Poplar Bluff, the Lady Bulldogs broke two eighth grade records. Applewhite broke the long jump record with a leap of 15'9".
Also, Borgsmiller set a school record in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Sikeston girls soccer team lost 2-0 to Springfield High School (Ill.) on Friday in the Carbondale Tournament.
"It was just a sloppy game," Sikeston coach Derrick Long said. "Both on the field and in our play. We had our chances but couldn't put it past the keeper."
Springfield scored first when Sikeston kicked the ball into their own goal two minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 until halftime.
Springfield scored its second goal on a free kick at the 47:00 mark.
Play was stopped at the 50:00 mark due to lightning.
Sikeston outshot Springfield 10-6.
Goalie Amber Minner had five saves for Sikeston.
The Lady Bulldogs fall to 6-3 on the season. They were schedule to face Urbana (Ill.) in the tournament on Saturday.
