KELSO - Mr. and Mrs. I.J. Dannenmueller of Kelso recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their farm north of Kelso. The couple was married in 1897.

MORLEY - More than most people, Mrs. Polly Hatch knows how the weary prize fighter feels when she hears the sound of the bell. Her adversary is a blackbird. And she, too, was saved by the bell. Swarms of birds roosted at her home in the spring of 1966. Finally, a Bell employee from Benton loaned her a 10-inch-wide bell vibrator to scare the birds away. It has worked.

SIKESTON - Mrs. Martin Perkins will speak at the annual tea of the extension councils of Scott, Stoddard, New Madrid and Mississippi counties Thursday at the Junior High School auditorium.

SIKESTON - A large crowd joined the fun Saturday evening when they attended the city's 1950s and '60s Sock Hop, conducted at the old Middle School gymnasium. Those attending the event danced to the music of the times performed by Danny and the Dreamers and participated in hula hoop, bubble blowing and dancing contests.

SIKESTON - The 1997-98 Student Council officers for the Sikeston Junior High School were sworn in by the 1996-97 officers at the Parent/Faculty/
Student Council Banquet. New officers are: Hailey Priday, president; Katie Lape, secretary; and Marcie Eaves, vice president. Last year's officers are: Danette Todt, president; Ellie Miller, secretary; and Jessica Jensen, vice president.
NEW MADRID - Members of the sixth grade class at Immaculate Conception Grade School visited the State Capitol and visited with State Representative Gene Copeland recently. They were: Sarah Fowler, Mariah Bock, Mallery DeLisle, Eric Thomure, Zach Dees, Zack Krebs and Mandy Truelove.
