Some criminals do do not deserve freedom

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Frederick Darrington, 18, of Kansas City, is the type of thug who should remain behind bars for the rest of his miserable life. In his brief 18 years on this good earth, Darrington has managed to be a classic menace to society. And for that, we can only hope the Kansas City man never sees freedom again.

Darrington is a street thug and a car jacker. He was wanted on federal charges for two carjackings when police recently pulled him over for a traffic violation. Darrington resorted to his animal nature. He pulled a Tech-9 semiautomatic weapon and fired 30 shots at the police officer. He wounded the cop in the ankle. Had he been a better shot, Darrington today would be awaiting a death penalty trial for murder. Fortunately, Darrington was a lousy shot.

Police found the thug within a hour. He was hiding in a garage. He is now awaiting a future trial for first degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He'll spend many years behind bars. He should spend the remainder of his life.

How can someone - anyone - reach such a violent, evil point in just 18 short years? What happened in this guy's life that would put this weapon in his hands? He obviously hoped to kill the law enforcement officer and, by sheer luck alone, he was unsuccessful.

Darrington is no different than any other murderer. He was just a bad shot. But the same evil intentions existed in his twisted mind.

Society needs protection from Frederick Darrington. It should be a guarantee of our society that these types of thugs will never gain their freedom.
