CHARLESTON - A broken window and a crowbar found at the scene of fire that devastated the Mississippi County Courthouse early this morning prompt law enforcement officials to suspect the blaze was the work of arsonists. Charleston, East Prairie, Wyatt, Bertrand, Sikeston and Miner fire departments joined the Charleston DPS in fighting the fire. Reported at 4:16 a.m. today, the fire quickly destroyed the upper floors of the turn-of-the-century building, which was constructed in 1900-01 on the courthouse square. The blaze was contained with three to four hours of the initial call.
