SIKESTON -- Thelma Zelene McGill, 98, died at 8:35 a.m. April 13, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. Born Sept. 26, 1908, in Bell City, daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Strainey Overbey, she was a housewife and member of North Acres General Baptist Church. SIKESTON -- Thelma Zelene McGill, 98, died at 8:35 a.m. April 13, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born Sept. 26, 1908, in Bell City, daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Strainey Overbey, she was a housewife and member of North Acres General Baptist Church. She was a 1927 graduate of Bell City High School and formerly taught school at Rock Point and Little Rock Schools near Bell City and Advance.

On April 14, 1928, in Benton, she married James Harlie McGill, who preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1991.

Three brothers, Cleo Overbey, Vane Overbey and Kenneth Overbey, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Teresa McGill of Sikeston; two daughters and one son-in-law, Romona Masters of Sikeston and Frona and Jim Sturgeon of Menifee, Calif.; three sisters, Maude Cossou of Bell City, Hazel Bright and Lillian Thompson of Advance; nine grandchildren, Sharon Masters, Janet Schlarmann, Rhia Engelsma, Robert Sturgeon, Laura Sturgeon, Tonia McGill, Charla Robinson, Charles McGill Jr. and Richard McGill; and 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Norman Elledge officiating.

Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance.
