CHARLESTON - After a week-long investigation conducted by members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms National Review Team it has been determined that the fire that destroyed the second floor of the Mississippi County courthouse early Monday morning was deliberately set by someone. "ATF has come to the conclusion that the fire was set but they are not labeling it as an arson," said Mike Seibert, Charleston police chief. He added that ATF informed him that all the evidence collected at the scene is being transported to Washington, D.C. to be analyzed. It will be two to three weeks before it is determined what the accelerant was that was used to set the fire.
