NEW MADRID - The bid on one-man rule of four city office by Boyd Masterson failed to get off the ground as the four office holders were reelected by a top heavy vote. The city also voted in favor of daylight savings time in yesterday's election.

SIKESTON - Sikeston was praised for bringing in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for concerts by the executive director of the Missouri Council of Arts. Clark Mitze, St. Louis, said that the appearance would contribute to Sikeston's reputation as a cultural center and be good for business.
SIKESTON - James Wilder, Tampa Bay Buccaneer star who is formerly of Sikeston, was presented a framed jersey number at Thursday night's Man of the Year banquet. Sikeston High School has retired the number in his honor. The framed number 29 was one of several things presented to Wilder throughout the day. Accompanying him throughout the festivities was his wife, Barbara.

SIKESTON - "Sikeston is tremendous because of people like you," Mike Jensen told the 525 people attending the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year banquet Thursday night, upon accepting the Chamber's prestigious award. The award is given each year to recognize a person who has given much time and service to his community.

SIKESTON - The public had the opportunity to express their views on a proposal to upgrade Highway 60 during a public hearing Wednesday hosted by the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department. The department proposes to repave 2.3 miles of Highway 60, construct shoulders and replace the bridges over St. John's Ditch.
