Louie Hirschowitz

ORAN -- Louie J. Hirschowitz, died March 30, 2007.

A lifelong resident of Oran, in 1947 he and his brother opened Hirschowitz Supply Store. He served as mayor of Oran for three terms, was county and presiding commissioner of Scott County for 16 years and helped organize the first mayor's club of Southeast Missouri, the Southeast Port Authority and the Scott County Historical Society. He was president and member of Missouri Association Counties and a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the VFW 5368, Morley Masonic Lodge 184, Morley Easter Star 432 and Beth Jacobs Congregation in Carbondale, Ill.

On Feb. 16, 1944, he married Audrey Kaplan who survives of the home in Oran.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery.

Rindskopf-Roth Funeral Chapel of St. Louis was in charge of arrangements.
