DEXTER -- Joseph S. Keepers, formerly of Poplar Bluff, was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Gallup, N.M., to George and Miriam Keepers and passed away at home on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at the age of 90.
He moved to Bloomfield when he was 10 years old and graduated from Bloomfield High school in 1935. He was also a graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1944 with a degree in dairy agriculture. He worked with Reddi Wip and retired from Hunt Wesson. He remained a devoted fan of the Missouri Tigers throughout his life. He was a former elder and deacon of the First Christian Church in Poplar Bluff and was presently a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Dexter. He was also a veteran serving in World War II.
He was a devoted husband of Lena Morgan Hyslop who he married on June 20, 1959. He was also the loving father of Sue Grobe of Dexter and the late Margaret Anne Sifford; a grandfather of Morgan Sifford of Puxico, the late Chris Sifford, Sue Sifford of Sikeston, Kerri Kruse and Kristi Booker, both of Dexter; also by five great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Besides his parents, daughter and grandson, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Keepers, and by a sister, Miriam Heinze.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time for services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Vaughn Wright will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.
Arrangements are under the direction of Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico and Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter.
