EAST PRAIRIE -- The Portageville Bulldogs earned a key district win over East Prairie, defeating the Eagles 79-68 in overtime.

East Prairie, playing their first game in 10 days, fought back from a 14-point deficit and held a 63-61 lead with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation. However Portageville's Dominic Trotter hit a game-tying shot as time expired, sending the game into overtime.

The Bulldogs dominated the overtime period and led 72-67 with 1:26 remaining when play was stopped due to bad weather. When play resumed, Portageville hit their free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

Tony Jones of East Prairie led all scorers with 30 points.

DEXTER -- Stormy weather caused the suspension of the Dexter/Bell City game with the Cubs leading 53-41 with 1:31 left in the third quarter. The game will be resumed today at 5 p.m.

Chris Cooper scored 14 points as Kelly pulled off the upset by slipping past visiting Scott City.

The Hawks improved to 9-11, while the state-ranked Rams fell to 13-5. Scott City is ranked ninth in Class 3.

ESSEX -- The Richland Rebels held off the Risco Tigers at home 78-68 Tuesday night.

"Richland is pretty tough," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "We got down 16-2 to start the game and outscored them by four the rest of the way."

Richland (9-9) was led in scoring by Nick Harris' 25 points. Drew Thornton and Mikey Latham added 15 and 14 respectively.

Risco (7-12) was led by Kyle White's 21. Derek Fowler and Michael Davis each added 12.

"Our kids played hard and I think we are still moving in the right direction," Blankenship said.

Risco won the junior varsity game 41-29 to improve to 13-5 on the season. Brandon Bennett finished with 15 points.
