BERNIE -- Loy Emerson Slinkard, 81, died Sept. 12, 2006, at Bernie.
Born Sept. 16, 1924, at Marble Hill, son of the late Jerome and Blanche Pair Slinkard, he was a school teacher and had served for 11 years as principal of Bernie Elementary School until his retirement.
On Nov. 23, 1946, at Piggott, Ark., he married Ruby Marie Whitener who preceded him in death on March 7, 2005.
One son, Dale Loy Slinkard, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: three sons, Glen Wayne Slinkard of Chandler, Ariz., Gene Ray Slinkard of Bernie and Gale Dean Slinkard of Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter, Reva Jo Bowie of Dayton, Md.; one brother, Loren Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; one sister of the state of California; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. The Rev. Susan Marner-Sides will officiate.
