Rodeo enjoys cooler weather

SIKESTON -- The 54th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo continued action on Thursday night with several impressive performances by the professional cowboys.

After Wednesday night's sweltering humidity, Thursday took a turn for the cooler after a cold front brought rain early in the day with more pleasant temperatures that carried into the evening.

Here are the results from Thursday night's competition. In the bareback riding competition, Dustin Murray scored 80 points to capture first place. Kelly Timberman took second place with 78 points. He was followed by Will Lowe and Wes Stevenson who each scored 75 points.

In the saddlebronc riding event, Billy Etbauer scored 81 points to take first place. J.J. Elshere took second place with a score of 80 points. Bobby Griswold took third with 78 points and Heith DeMoss captured fourth with 77 points.

In the tie down roping event, Jay Smith took first place with a time of 9.7 seconds. Brad Mills took second in 11.9 seconds and T.J. Hobson took third with a time of 16.8 seconds.

In the steer wrestling event, Tyler Schau took first with a time of 3.7 seconds. Keith Ball followed up with a time of 4.5 seconds. Travis Hancock finished in third place with a time of 15.8 seconds.

In the team roping competition, Justin Kurck and Justin Gossett tied Richard Traylor and Rowdy Lee for first place with each posting times of 13.1 seconds.

In the bull riding competition, Tate Stratton took first place with a score of 90 points. Fred Boettcher took second with 82 points and Steve Antczack finished in third with 73 points.

In the barrel racing event, Amanda Clayman, from nearby Naylor, Mo., took first place with a time of 16.74. Erica Conrade took second place with a time of 17.09. In third place, another Naylor resident, Lori Amoss, finished with a time of 18.71.

Terri Clark provided the entertainment for rodeo fans at the end of the night. Rodeo action will continue this evening and will conclude Saturday evening.
