SIKESTON - Jim Montgomery of Sikeston killed a giant rattler in the Benton Hills Sunday morning. The reptile was five feet long, six inches in circumference and had seven rattles, including a button on its tail.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's new car dealers report at least volumes of questions about deep cuts in finance charges, if not red hot sales. Automobile manufacturers have lowered finance rates from 5.9 to 9.9 percent to 2.9 percent for GM and Ford, 2.4 percent for Chrysler, while American Motors chopped their rate to zero.

MATTHEWS - One of country music's leading young singers will be in Matthews as guest entertainer for Saturday's Big Prairie Jaycee Community Day in the Matthews City Park. Daron Norwood has emerged from the pack of new country artists to take his place at the top. He will take the stage at 8 p.m. All proceeds go toward the Christmas Drive the Big Prairie Jaycees hold each year.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School girl's tennis team began their season with matches on Tuesday, a 5-4 team win over Chaffee, and an 8-0 loss to Dexter on Wednesday. "The girls played very well," said Sikeston coach Lynne DeWitt. "We were missing our number two player, so everyone had to step up and take over."
