SIKESTON - Doris Vern Burton, 78, died at 4:40 a.m. Sept. 4, 2006, at the Sells Rest Home in Matthews.
Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Blytheville, Ark., to the late T.V. and Lena Bradshaw Wilkerson, she resided in Cooter and the state of Florida before moving to Sikeston where she lived for the past 30 years. She was employed in the laundry department at Sikeston Convalescent Center and in the kitchen at Lambert's Cafe and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
On May 18, 1956, in Indianapolis, she married Jack R. Burton, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1993.
One brother and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, James "Pat" and Tammie Burton and Mike and Karen Burton of Sikeston; two daughters, Janice Kahn of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kathy Larrington of the state of Nebraska; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Jerry Adams, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church in Sikeston, and the Rev. John Givens, pastor of Potters House Ministries in Sikeston, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Matthews City Cemetery.
