SIKESTON - Mrs. C.W. Elliot entertained at her home Sept. 26 in honor of her daughter, Shirley Ann, who had her 11th birthday.
SIKESTON - The temperature dipped to 32 degrees for the first time this fall. It occurred Sunday night and early today. Frost accompanied the low temperature this morning. No crop damage was reported this morning; it was confined to the low spots.

SIKESTON - John Chadd, director of the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center, displayed Kenny Rogers' Hands Across America jacket, which he wore during the events this summer. The jacket is one of the items to be auctioned at the CP Auction, scheduled at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge. The event is one of several in Sikeston this weekend that will benefit the center.

NEW MADRID - Vision, hearing, language and physical development will be checked during screening of children, birth to age 5, sponsored by the New Madrid County R-1 School District.
SIKESTON - Department of Public Safety officer James Donner gave students from Sikeston schools a tour of the department Monday. The students were learning about local government and also received a tour at the Sikeston City Hall.

SIKESTON - Even good citizens sometimes have to take the heat. With that in mind, Sikeston Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Buchanan agreed to be "roasted" for the Third Annual Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce "Friendly Roast" scheduled for Nov. 7 at the Ramada Inn. Former Sikeston School Superintendent Dr. Sam Harbin will emcee the event.
