Portageville falls to Fulton County
PORTAGEVILLE -- The Portageville Bulldogs dropped their third straight game of the season with a 37-7 home loss to Fulton County, Ky.
Turnovers by the Bulldogs turned a close first half game into a rout by game's end. Portageville threw four interceptions that Fulton County capitalized on.
Fullback Leonard Boyd led Portageville on the ground with 17 carries for 101 yards and scored the lone Bulldog touchdown. Mikey Johnson rushed for 30 yards on 12 carries.
To add to the problems of Portageville, two contributing running backs left the game early due to injuries. Nathan Martin and Aaron Kershaw only saw limited action early on in the contest. Martin finished with seven carries for 32 yards, while Kershaw only had one rush before leaving the game.
Cody Cook continues to learn on the run at quarterback after the injury to projected starter Trey Mosby in the preseason. Cook struggled with the four interceptions but did complete four passes for 21 yards.
Heath Stegall led the Bulldogs in receiving with two catches for 16 yards. Kony Ealy contributed one reception for nine yards.
Portageville (0-3) will have their hands full next Friday night as the Malden Green Wave (3-0) come to town for kickoff at 7 p.m.
