SIKESTON - Sikeston voters will go before the polls Tuesday to pass a proposition issuing $125,000 in Sikeston School District bonds to build an addition to Bailey schools.

SIKESTON - The 90th anniversary of the founding of the Ben Franklin Stores was featured during the annual zone meeting held at the Holiday Inn here Tuesday. State representatives were from Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee; 102 managers and guests were present for the largest attendance in many years. A noon luncheon featured a four-tiered birthday cake with the traditional insignia placed on top.

SIKESTON - Elementary students are being given the opportunity to create their own artwork and books in workshops which continue this week. The writing class is under the direction of Mary Harrison assisted by Amy Norton. Judy Comer is providing instruction to art students with assistance from Tammy McCain and Brooke Nix.

FARMINGTON - Bree Owens, rather than doing the usual warm weather activities like hanging out at the pool and camping, decided to do something different this year - compete for Miss Missouri. The Farmington resident was among 30 women from across Missouri who competed June 5-8 at the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo., for the right to represent the state at the Miss America Pageant in September for over $20,000 in scholarship money.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Elks Lodge officially started the construction of their new building on Dona Street Thursday with a ground-breaking ceremony. The approximately 15,000-square-foot building will include a main room with seating for as many as 450 people.
