SIKESTON - Construction projects totaling $18,000 will be started soon in Sikeston, it was learned today from an inspection of records at the city clerk's office.

SIKESTON - George Dawes, attorney for the state highway department, was released Thursday from Missouri Delta Community Hospital following a single car accident Wednesday night.


SIKESTON - Buckner-Ragsdale Co. has acquired the building east of the present location, formerly occupied by the P.N. Hirsch Co. Both buildings will be remodeled and brought under one roof.

SIKESTON - Workmen were busy Sunday afternoon and this morning erecting carnival rides and concession stands for the 42nd Annual Cotton Carnival, which begins today in downtown Sikeston.


PORTAGEVILLE - An anonymous bomb threat delayed the opening of schools in Portageville for about 45 minutes this morning, but authorities who searched the building for explosive devices found nothing.

SIKESTON - Employees of the Standard-Democrat newspaper worked Friday and Saturday changing presses as part of an expansion and relocation of Democrat Printing to the newspaper's location on South New Madrid. Two additional Goss Suburban press units are being installed to provide additional color printing capabilities.


NEW MADRID - The Malden Green Wave proved themselves to be the real deal by defeating New Madrid County Central 21-18 Friday night. It was a momentum-shifting, helmet-splitting, emotion-filled thriller that almost left all fans with a heart condition.
