CHARLESTON -- An Illinois teenager was arrested Saturday for his involvement in last month's shooting of a Charleston man.
Kenneth Bell, 17, of Cairo, Ill., faces charges of assault in the first degree and armed criminal action in the Feb. 13 shooting of 21-year-old Ricky Riley of Charleston, who was found by officers in his vehicle, according to a news release from the Charleston Department of Public Safety. Riley is still recuperating in a local hospital.
Following an investigation by Charleston DPS, a warrant was issued for Bell's arrest on Feb. 27. Bell was arrested in Illinois on Saturday and waived extradition to Missouri. He arrived in Missouri Monday and is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on $350,000 cash only bond.
"I am pleased to finally have the suspect in custody," Chief Robert Hearnes said. "I would also like to thank the Cairo Police Department and the Alexander County, Ill., Sheriff's Department for their assistance in this investigation."
