SIKESTON - Eighth District Congressman Bill Emerson told a gathering of farmers and agricultural leaders at his annual Farm Tour meeting Thursday that good news awaits U.S. cotton growers on the world market, and that farmland prices may have bottomed. Emerson also had breakfast with the group.

PORTAGEVILLE - Preparations have been under way since July for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association, sponsored by the Portageville Women for Tomorrow. The group has set a goal of $7,000 to be raised during Saturday's events which include a roadblock, children's games, concession stand and live entertainment at the Arkansas Power and Light parking lot on Main Street in Portageville.

SIKESTON - The Rev. and Mrs. Lee Fansler will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Blodgett. Fansler and the former Sylvia Cox were married Sept. 6, 1947, at the home of the Rev. E.D. Owens, then pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston.

CHAFFEE - The Sikeston High School Lady Bulldog tennis team began the season with a big win for their new tennis coach, Suzanne Hart. The Lady Bulldog varsity team brought home a 9-0 shutout over the Chaffee Lady Red Devils. Junior varsity finished the afternoon with a 5-1 win.
