SIKESTON - Boundaries for a rural fire district have been determined and will be put to a vote, according to Sikeston Director of Public Mike Phelan. A meeting to organize Sikeston Fire District No. 1 was conducted Wednesday at the Sikeston Health Care Center. Nearly 100 people were in attendance. The meeting was called because area rural residents face a July 29 deadline by the city of Sikeston. After that date DPS will no longer offer fire service to out of town areas that are not incorporated or that are not part of a mutual aid agreement with Sikeston due to liability risks.
