CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Phyllis I. Witt Hipes, 75, formerly of Sikeston, died at 11:46 a.m. July 23, 2008, at her home.

Born April 13, 1933, at Dexter, to the late Dewey Delman and Gertrude Mae Mossman Hart, she was an office manager for Reliable Life Insurance Co., had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Sikeston and was of the Baptist belief.

On Aug. 18, 1951, she married Bennie Witt who preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1983. On Nov. 25, 1988, she married Ira Gene Hipes who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1994.

One brother, Jimmy Dale Hart, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two stepsons and their wives, Blaine and Linda Hipes of Farmington, Ark., and Brian and Vanessa Hipes of Washington, Ill.; one stepdaughter and her husband, Denise and Darrell Stewart of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Milton Hart of Pittsburg, Texas; and eight stepgrandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. A private graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church, officiating.
