PORTAGEVILLE -- Paul Edwin Shankle, 75, passed away at his home July 23, 2008, with his family by his side.

Paul was born April 9, 1933, at Portagevile to the late John and Gladys Wright Shankle. He grew up in Portageville and attended Portageville schools where he played football. On Nov. 7, 1951, almost 57 years ago, he married his high school sweetheart, Connie Joyce Dacus.

He had several jobs in the area at grocery stores and furniture stores and his own welding business for awhile, but most of his working life was spent working for Earl Walker Mechanical where he worked in many surrounding states as a licensed master plumber.

Paul, Connie and their family attended First Church of God where he had enjoyed being a greeter for the past couple of years. If you knew Paul, then you knew of his sense of humor. He didn't give his word lightly. He enjoyed gardening, but he always said his hobby was his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Connie; three daughters, Tanya (Buddy) Brasher and Paula Morlan of Portageville and Beverly (David Hale) Halford of Cape Girardeau; one grandson, Douglas Paul Morlan of Phoenix; seven granddaughters, Shawna (Richard) Fieweger, Monica (Patrick) Nolen, Connie Brasher and Ashley Lacey of Portageville, Heather Morlan of Florence, Ariz., Melena Broglin of St. Louis and Paige Halford of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandsons, Chad Fieweger, Justin Morlan, Zachary Brasher, Dominik Kinnison and Hayden Morlan; five great-granddaughters, Lara Meyers, Jami and Kelci Nolen, Jayma Zerbe and Aubrie Erlbacher; two brothers, Carl (Delores) Shankle of Portageville and Kenneth (Pat) Shankle of Florissant; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul Edwin "Eddie" Shankle II; and one brother, John Charles Shankle.

Visitation and celebration of his life will be from 10 a.m. until time of memorial services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.
