SIKESTON - Audra Sherman, 15-year-old daughter of Ron and Karen Carmody of Sikeston, was crowned Junior Miss Rodeo 1988 at the Kingsway Mall Tuesday evening. The winners were: 15-year-old Heather Thornborough, daughter of Mark and Donna Thornborough of Malden, second runner-up; and Becky Lynn DeKriek, 14-year-old daughter of Rene and LaDonna DeKriek of Sikeston, first runner-up.

SIKESTON - Members of the Sikeston High School football team began preseason practice this morning. Sikeston football coach Charlie Vickery said that 65 players, including 27 seniors, reported for the first workout.

SIKESTON - Lunch with the Clowns, featuring Wrangler Bullfighters, was held at the Ramada Inn Tuesday afternoon. Children and their parents were served hot dogs, potato chips, popcorn and sodas. The youngsters visited with the clowns and received balloons.

SIKESTON - The 46th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo came to a close Saturday night with an overall attendance of over 34,000 patrons for the four nights.

SIKESTON - Students making the transition from kindergarten to first grade at Lee Hunter can have a preview of their classrooms today. The school will host a first grade orientation beginning at 6:30 p.m. today at Lee Hunter when parents and students can meet teachers and tour classrooms.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Blake DeWitt pitched 2 1/3 innings for Sikeston in the quarterfinal game of the Bambino World Series. Sikeston lost the game to Oakland, Calif., 12-8.
